My questions about the differences in the "upgrades" and original turbos was
made even more confusing today.
While helping another lister with a car receiving a K24 water cooled upgrade,
I noticed that the outlet on the K24 was even smaller than the outlet on the
K26 oil cooled 5k unit I just had rebuilt in error for my WX.
Since we had all 3 turbos out on the floor, I checked the hot side outlet
diameters and other dimensions.
The K24 water cooled (from a '90 200) outlet = 1.8125"
K26 oil cooled (guessing from a 5kt) outlet = 2.00"
K26 oil cooled (from URQ WX) outlet = 2.1875"
These are all hot side outlet measurements. Cold side diameters measured the
same.
All other aspects looked identical with the exception of the water jacket
fittings.
If the K24 with the smallest hot outlet, giving more low end quicker with
less on top end, is an "upgrade", why wouldn't the K26 oc be considered
better for a daily driver? This car will not likely ever see the track.
