A8 Oil Filter Change and Reset Computer

I'm ready to change my oil on my A8. I got a filter from Blau the other day,
it is one of those cartridge filters, one that fits in a canister. Question:
is this a really messy job (like on my TR6) or is it relatively clean?

Secondly, my display for the trip odometer says "service miles in 1 (for
1,000)". It's coming up on the 47,500 mile mark, where the service is due.
Due I need the VAG tool to reset it or is there another way?
