Aspirator motor project/broken glove compartment...

There's a plastic clip--sort of like a C-clip with the back of the C 
flattened out and bent over--that holds the lock assembly from going 
forward out of its square hole through the skin of the box, Steve.  The top 
of the clip looks sort of like a shroud over the rest of the lock 
assembly.  You just wiggle on that shroud and the clip slides upward.  Then 
you compress the lock release handles on the outside (the way you "open" 
the box),  and the latching assembly slides out.  The clip was real loose 
in my '86 parts car's glovebox, but was not as willing to slide out of the 
'87.  You might want to spray a little something that makes the plastic 
more slippery (WD40, Armorall, etc.) on the whole area and let it soak in a 
bit.
