Pilot bearing removal

Sorry, Huw, it works. I've been successfully using this technique for 39
years (scary, huh?). I learned it from a heavy equipment mechanic that
worked for my dad. He was in his 60s at the time, and I suppose he'd done it
for years. Doesn't work well on bearings other than the needle cage type
unless they're sealed, and the last 4K I used it on took a LONG time, like
about 20 minutes, but it came out. If the needles are gone, forget it-use a
dremel on the cage. Messy? Yup, can be. I've even used it on bronze
bushings. In all honesty, it helps to have a lift so you can stand up under
there and get a good swing at it. John
