Agree w/ all comments snipped from above WRT oils and
additives.  #1 fix for noisy lifters IME is to
check/change filter.  If it's not black- it's wrong. 
Peoples cars I've serviced often complain of this, but
they've got some green or orange crap on there and
10w30 or whatever generic swill Genie Lube puts in.
