Pilot Bearing

I've had this work once. It was on an old Firebird I owned. Used the
slider bolt from a barn door lock/latch mechanism. Tried it other times,
even using the correct input shaft (which had been torched off the tranny)
with minimally successful results. Ended up buying the correct tool for the
Audi I5s from Zelenda... <$10.

Al, did you actually do this once? I have tried it and all it did was
make a mess. Which would normally be lots of fun, but it wasn't at the
time! Reason i ask is that this always comes up, as if "everyone knows"
that it works, and yet considering how tightly the bearings seem to have
been in place (the three I've meddled with) I can't see it actually
working.
