Why I drive an Audi...

A long story...

November 1981. I was 23 and in my first job after leaving college. The
company's products were over-priced and poor quality so weren't selling and
our working week had been reduced to 3 days. Having a 4 day weekend to fill
every week and a reduced wage packet gave problems so when some friends
suggested following the RAC Rally I jumped at the chance. We'd worked out
that if we slept in the car (4 of us in a Vauxhall Magnum estate) and didn't
eat too much we had enough funds between us to pay for the petrol.

I don't remember where we went and probably didn't know at the time, all
that I recall is being freezing cold for 3 days, being deafened by the cars,
blinded by their lights at night and all the time thinking 'I want one of
those quattros - one day, as soon as I've got enough cash....'.

Well, as we all know, life's not like that. Within months I couldn't afford
to keep working only 3 days so left the company and worked for a friend -
enjoyable work, low pay but more than the 3 day total. Some years later I
changed job again, higher pay and could afford a better car but couldn't get
anywhere near the price of a quattro, not even a used one.
Then I met my wife....
House, marriage, child, debts, POS car, bigger house, more debts, better
job, more debts, second job, marriage break up, worse POS car, fewer debts,
one job, no debts, quattro.
