[200q20v] Running Hot

SHORT VERSION: I'd suggest that you warm up your engine by driving around
town with the air conditioning set as cold as you can make it run. This
forces the rad fan to run. Then, stop the car with the engine and air
conditioning on, and open the hood, and see if the rad fan is
running. Then, turn off the hot engine and see if the fan that you hear
is the rad fan or the after-run fan.
Maybe your radiator fan wasn't running. That would be the most probable
cause of overheating IMO. Now, what would cause a rad fan to not run? Try
turning the fan blades on the cold motor, to see if the fan motor is
seized. Don't do this with a hot engine.
IF THE BLADES CAN BE TURNED EASILY BY HAND, find out if the rad fan will
run by itself: (See SHORT VERSION above). Or you could jumper the fan motor
with the engine off, and see if the rad fan runs. If it it is seized or
doesn't run with a proven power supply, then you need a new fan motor.
Don't jumper it very long, because you could burn out the harness if the
fan is already seized.
IF IT RUNS with proven power supply, but not when the engine and AC are
running, then the system of fuses and wires and relays and the temperature
sensors are suspect. Something in the system isn't doing its job. They all
have to be tested, including the fusible link that protects the rad fan
from burning up if it seizes up while running.
The after-run fan you heard is probably the auxiliary fan that blows air
over the fuel injection lines, to avoid vapor lock.
