Quietly looking for A4/A6 avant-questions

If you want a 5 speed Avant, and can't afford $22-28k for an S6 wagon,
your only options are the A4 Avant from 98 (V6 only) upward (1.8T
available). As you know, the A4 is kind of small, which is why I
purchased a used 5sp Volvo 850 wagon instead. No, it's not a quattro,
but FWD and traction control was as close as I could come.
With that said, the S6 wagon is a terrific car and prices are coming
down quite a bit.
