Near ticket experience

I suppose I should share. :)

My drive to work is on a road that is 2 lanes, and the speed limit is 65 (it
parallels an interstate whose speed limit is 75; I like avoiding the
interstate because it's only 2 lanes each way, and the traffic is heavy
enough and drivers inattentive enough that there is usually at least one
accident a day on the stretch I'd be driving between Denver and Colorado
Springs).

One morning on my way to work, I get behind a guy in a Suburban who is going
10 under, so I judiciously pass him (going uphill, of course... I love this
car). I leave him well behind me and set my cruise at 70 like I normally do,
knowing that 5-10 over in a family car that isn't red, isn't likely to turn
any heads.

A couple minutes later, here he comes, lumbering up behind me. I thought,
well maybe the hill was slowing down his gas guzzler and he really rips
through here (like it seems everyone does). Then he gets right up on my ass.

THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN MY WARNING SIGN.

Now call me crazy, but I don't like people right up on my ass, so I speed up
a little bit to give myself some breathing space. He paces me. I speed up a
little bit again, he paces me. One more time... man this guy is anxious, so
I really want him off my butt. It just so happens that I'm passing a part of
the road that has a passing lane and a parking lane, so I move over to let
him pass me. Bing, on go the hidden lights in the grill.

I was completely fuming, but I didn't let him see that. I was polite, said
"yes sir" and "no sir", and he just gave me a verbal (didn't even bother to
look my plates up). And of course, he followed me almost all the way to work
(another 30 miles or so), so I spent it all REALLY obeying ALL the signs,
even the ones where it tells the mortals without high performance German
cars w/ sticky summer tires to slow down for the turns.

At least I didn't get poked! And no, no radar detector in sight that day.

Best regards,
Brad
