5Ks auto lazy shift

My 86 5Ks auto seems to be shifting "lazy" from 2nd to 3rd. The 1st to 2nd
is fine.
You almost need to let off the accelerator to have it shift correctly. Not
all the time, but mostly under moderate acceleration.
Is this part of the cable adjustment, or is the tranny becoming toast?
