ETKA on Linux, almost no Windows required

I searched the archives, and didn't see this subject being discussed on the
list, so I thought I should get this info out there.
Problem: Running ETKA on systems other than Windows
Solution: wine on Linux
I have been hacking and smacking my computer around, trying to access ETKA
from Linux, which I use for everything but games and ETKA. From looking at
the logs from my audi site, I know that at least 20% of the people who come
to my site, run something other than Windows, so I know that someone will
appreciate this.
Explanation:
This "fix" is for systems running an RPM-based Linux box. I can't help the
Debian folks, but configuring wine for your box should be documented
somewhere. Back to the fix, you'll need:
1.) RPM of wine (I used wine-cvs-unstripped-082001-1 from rpmfind.net)
2.) ETKA disc installed entirely on your hard drive (I installed under
Windows98)
3.) Command line
- Install wine, using the command 'rpm -Uvh wine-cvs-unstripped-082001-1.rpm'.
- Find your executable for ETKA (mine was under
/mnt/win_c/epc_prog/winetka.exe, it should be wherever your windows drive is
mounted, plus the /epc_prog/winetka.exe path). I don't think you can change
the installation directory without some futzing around, so it should be there.
- Run the command 'wine /mnt/win_c/epc_prog/winetka.exe'
It should just pop up. The fonts were a little nutty under my Linux
(Linux-Mandrake 8.1 beta 1), but your mileage may vary.
I hope this helps someone out there, as well as getting it in the archives
for posterity, I suppose.
Again, this worked for me, I don't know if this may work for everyone, but I
hope it helps a few running Linux.
Thanks,
Brendan
