[urq] 80tq drag racing- Intercooler reevaluation [long]

I've never been able to get more then 12-13psi boost in first and second
gear in my 4000, regardless of how high I set the boost with the boost
controller,e.g, 18-20psi in 4th & 5th. I have a large (by Audi standards)
944 intercooler and speculated that intercooler fill time/pressure loss
might be the cause. But then again, it could be simply there is not enough
load on the engine in the lower gears to drive the turbo. I'm effectively
gearing my car much higher by fitting 1.25" taller tires, and am curious to
see if this has an effect on boost in 1st and 2nd.
The pros for a large intercooler far outweigh any cons.
