Have you tried Oil Eater?  It supposedly uses natural enzymes to break
down the gunk.  It's probably safer than some of the stuff that you used
already.  I used this stuff on my sisters 94 90 that had grease all over
the inside because of a torn CV boot.  Several applications later the
wheel is nice and clean.  It can be found at your local Costco.  A lister
actually recommended this before and I haven't used anything else since.
