The car is correct.  The family album shows two radiators for the
1983 4000 turbo diesel with A/C.

It's a 1983.  Use Huw's VIN decoder

1983 was the only year that a turbo diesel 4000 was offered in the US,
making it quite a rare bird.

The tail lights are correct for pre-85 cars.  This has nothing to do with
quattro or fwd.  The only pre-85 q sedan is the '84 4000 quattro in the
US, and it also has the same old style tail lights.

The front lights and grill has been changed by the owner to the 85-87
style.
