radiator fan switch temp ranges with thermostat temp ranges...

Hi All,

Thanks to those that responded to me. The question wasn't how to replace
the radiator fan switch; I've already replaced it with a spare that I have.
I also carry a short jumper in the fuse box to jumper the relay connections
when I feel the need to have an off and on "switch".

My first question was about what heat range to choose given a thermostat
rating. For example, the radiator fan switch that failed is a
Wahler(Mahler?) with a temp range of 85 - 77 C. What thermostat would be
appropriate for that switch? I once saw a post that gave several thermostat
ranges and the appropriate switch for each.

One responder suggested that I replace the switch with a new one and it
would last a "long, long" time. The one that failed was installed new about
5 months ago.

And, it's not the cost of a new one; they sell for about $8 to $12
depending. It's the incovenience and embarrassment of getting into a car
with a dead battery.

I really wondered if there's a fix other than the fact that I'll be vigilant
about listening for the fan for a little while to see if it shuts off on its
own. Then when I become complacent again, it'll bite me again.

In summary: (1) what switches go with which thermostats, (2) does anyone
know of a quick and dirty fix for this stupid problem? It has happened to
me at least 6 times.

TIA.

Cheers!

Jim Jordan
