Question about a 1987 5ktq

i think he's referring to the check engine light which can come on sometimes
under high boost pulls. i have an '88 5kcstq which does this only
occasionally. the computer fault code which came after the check engine
light came on was "2142"(if i remember right) which corresponds to "knock
sensor, high fuel consumption, low boost".
this is a symptom i still have and haven't cured my low boost problem.
second note: i've replaced or checked intercooler hose, WOT switch(0 Ohms
res.), vacuum lines, and any other obvious sources for low boost.
my temp gauge is intermittent, and works if the car is warm and then
restarted. multi-funtion temp switch? i replaced it, but i'm still not sure
if it's good. any ideas that can be offered would be most appreciated.
