Hi everyone,
Things are looking good for our PC board, and now I think I've got an even
better solution!
As you know, I've offered to etch a bunch of RS-232 to Diag. Connector PC
boards (see http://www.planetfall.com/~jeff/obdii/
<http://www.planetfall.com/~jeff/obdii/> ). These would be trimmed but
un-drilled. We had discussed a price of $10.
Now I think I've got us a much better deal. See
http://www.andywhittaker.com/ecu/obdii_hardware.htm
<http://www.andywhittaker.com/ecu/obdii_hardware.htm> . This board is better
than Jeff's: it supports two modes, optional fused circuit protection, and
optional monitor LEDs. It is professionally etched, nicely screened for
parts layout, and it will be drilled. In all other respects it appears
identical to "Jeff's Board", i.e. appears to use the same optoisolators,
etc. with one significant difference-it only has one RS-232 connector. For
the diag. port end it has some solder pads for the 4 wires necessary.
I've been in touch with Andy, and he is willing to entertain a volume
purchase for 20 of them. I don't have shipping costs quoted by him yet, but
if he ships them all to me as a single shipment (from England) I'll think we
can do $10 a piece or better. His published price, as you can see, is $13.88
including shipping.
In order to keep our costs low, I would expect anybody who wants one to send
me the cash or money order and a self-addressed stamped envelope. I would
return the PC board in the SASE. DON"T SEND ANYTHING YET (you don't have my
address yet anyway :-). Let me get the final price first
The following is the current list of interested people. I would like to get
this up to the full 20. Please send me mail if you want to be added the
list. If you don't like Andy's board (I can't imagine why) and you want off
the list, let me know that, too.

Finally, I've talked with Multiplex Engineering.
<http://www.multiplex-engineering.com/)> . They can supply diag. port
connectors with pins for $5.50 each, but the minimum order is $50, i.e. we
need 10 people. When I have the final price for the boards I will set a
deadline for the group purchase and ask for a final commitment e-mail from
anyone that is interested by that date. You can request a connector at that
time. If we get 10 or more connector requests then I will buy those, too.
Best regards,
Scott
