Type 44 style interior light in a Type 85

the same light was installed in coupes from '85 on.  fits right into the
stock opening as well.  but on a coupe the opening is whre the sunroof
electrics would be, the 4k suffers from the goofy drivers side only B
pillar mounted light.

as you point out, replacing the crummy plastic version with the later
better plastic version is a good step one, step two being trying to
install a passenger side one.  pity the wiring isn't already in there!

I'd recommend bringing a pair of wires all the way around from the
drivers side, catching them where they "vanish" up into the trim.  hang
any extra entry lights desired (footwell, etc.) along the way on the
same wires.  There will be one hot wire and two grounds - one ground is
switched by the door switches, one is full time for the manual function
of the light's built in switch.
