Headlite switch plug

Hi Audi fans.

I have a problem that I hope you can help me with.  I
have a 1986 4K CSQ.  The other day the parking lights
stopped working.  The head-lights still work as well
as the high beams. Anyway, I removed the dashboard and
the headlight switch and noticed that a portion of the
switch, between to little terminals was melted.  In
addition to this, when I looked at the wiring plug at
the end of the wiring harness, I noticed that it too
was melted, in a place corresponding to that on the
switch.  What I cannot figure out is why, and
secondly, is the plug itself available from a parts
store??.  The switch I know I can buy.  Any help will
be greatly appreciated.  Sorry for the length of the
message.
