I think it's got more to do with the actual water pump. I got the
"gobble" when I changed the timing belt/WP etc. on the 200TQ two years
ago. It was the first time I came across this, so I took everything
apart, replaced the new tensioner bearing, rechecked belt tension, noise
continued. Played with the belt tension up and down but the noise
persisted. Left it as was and lived with the wild turkey under the hood.
I can't be sure, but I recall the pump was of the "made in Italy"
variety. It started leaking a few months ago (right at the 2 year
mark). The pump I got this time (from Worldpac) was of the "made in
Germany" variety, no gobble this time around.....I'm also pretty sure
this one will last longer than the 2 years I got out of the Italian one.
It could also be the luck of the draw, depending on what manufacturing
lot your pump comes from. I replaced the water pump in the 5KS more
years ago than I can remember (noninterference, so I just wait for the
pump to leak or the belt to snap) with the Italian variety, no leaks,
gobbles or squeaks since.
