This is correct for any form of water (softened, distilled, tap, etc).
Running pure water in a radiator will produce a tremendous amount of rust as
there is no coolant to stabalize the mixture.
It is the job of the coolant to stabalize the deionized water and prevent it
from eating your radiator. That's why I was confused about the issue raised
over distilled. The whole point of running distilled over tap water is to
prevent the introduction of more unnecessary minerals into the cooling
system, NOT to prevent rust!
