Indestructible I5 blocks

I checked out an I5 cylinder block with pistons and crank a few days
ago. It had almost 450k miles on it, but the piston rings,
crank/bearing clearances etc. were almost like new. Now we're talking
about durability! :-)

Next project for me now is a new cylinder head and overhaul (if
needed, that is) of an old DE code engine (I5 90 hp turbodiesel). :-)

I'm about to buy this '87 100 Turbodiesel, it has got a NA diesel
engine installed, and I get the complete TD engine for free with it.
The plan is to fix the old engine (cracked cylinder head) and put it
in again. Too bad Audi never made a type 44 diesel quattro.. But the
idea of driving a type 44 and getting between 45 and 50 mpg is great,
I once owned another '87 100 Turbodiesel, and I sorely miss it every
time I spend $70 on gas in the V8q.. (which is at least once a week)
