Yes, that is correct. The same specs as you describe, '92 2.8q Avant
with 5-speed. I only had it 4 months so didnt face any common problems
in that period. What I did have was oil consumption, it used as much as
2 liters per 1000 km :-( but not my problem now :-) Also I learnt that
the timing belt was a major PITA to replace without special tools.

I've never heard of anyone replacing the engine this way, why do it? A
'92 S4 is so cheap it isnt worth the trouble if you ask me. And the 2.8
isnt that slow, but it feels heavy compared to the S4 though. It isnt as
crisp and light-footed as a 4kq of course. But while the car feels heavy
on twisting roads, it is magnificent on the highway. 170 feels just as
stable, calm and quiet like 110, cant say that about many other cars
from '92. In fact, a 2.8q 5-speed is quicker in 0-100 than an S4
slushbox!

Either go for the 2.8 or an S4. But if WANT to replace half the car, go
for a 2.3 and go in.... :-) Dont get me wrong, but I wouldnt....
