just do not know how this could fill with antifreeze. could it
be
leaking through the sensor? anyone experience this?

This has happened to 3 of mine. The old (unknown) one and 2 new ones. Some
may have leaked out around the threads, but I think some came through the
unit itself. It is exacerbated by the newer phosphate free antifreeze that
seems to leave colorful deposits when it dries. (You are using phosphate
free antifreeze, aren't you?) It probably looks worse than it is. Bright
orange deposits all over the place. I also had liquid antifreeze collecting
in the boot itself. The connection then was continually immersed. That
can't be good. I pealed the boot back, and left the connector exposed. The
connection shouldn'tr need protection, and certainly not something that
collects contaminants. On my last one, I smeared a bunch of dielectric
grease on the connector before I hooked it up.
