Back in the days when Michigan had two license plates, I had a cosmetically
altered '54 Dorf (lowered, dechromed, no doorhandles, Frenched head-&
taillights, etc.) and, in my first version, I swung the front plate from a
hinged bracket below the bumper so it wouldn't get banged all to heck on
parking blocks, etc. Cops said it had to be rigidly attached to meet state
codes.
