FACOM started marketing these in 1996 as the FACOM 585, singly and as a
set of four. They were deleted from the catalogue in 1998. I was also
attracted by the idea they were designed for a 'portable reversible
electric drill' - they are indeed a reverse spiral drill.
There's no point to them for bench use - a precision drill stand is all
you need. For portable use, they still don't address the alignment and
centring issues and they're also a potential stud expanding device. In
addition, they apparently (so I've been told) need to be kept DAMN clean
to work properly. It's a fairly high precision device with close
tolerances.
On advice, I didn't bother trying them out. If anyone does and is
impressed, I'd be interested.
