I have a set of Snap-On reverse bits and in the times I have needed them
(small machine screws in consumer electronic repair...not an automotive
application) they have worked great. A great tool to have on hand, but
perhaps not ideal for things like Audi EM studs (a dauting thing for
sure).

I have no doubt Phil's setup is the ideal way to go but on the ovloV I
do have plenty of room to work, and it appears that the studs may not be
broken off flush with the head...there may be something to grab on to
still (I can hope can't I?). Some folks in ovlov-land use a dremel with
a diamond bit for a pilot hole and then these things I mentioned
(http://www.drill-out.com/) and have good success extracting with the
head in the car. I'm going to get brave and give it a try. If all fails,
I plan to remove the IM at the same time anyway to replace the
biodegradeable engine wiring harness (anyone who thinks Audi electrical
systems are bad really need to live with an 80s ovloV for a
while...you'll gain a whole new perspective and love your Audi more). At
that point head removal is pretty basic anyway.

I'll report my results with one of these extractors to the list when I
try it.
