Which new Audi is best, and why?

Well, I guess the starting points are a) what does your wife want and b) has
she test driven any of these? Do those and the below comments will most
likely be moot. As mine usually are. ;)

I would say only get the allroad if you NEED an electronically controlled
ride height suspension (i.e. changing ground clearance) or a wagon. I don't
think it's noisier/harsher than a std. a6 wagon. Remember there's also the
s4 avant/wagon as well, and the VW Passat wagon (an awesome, cheaper
alternative--loaded w/4motion & auto is around $32k, and it's basically a
re-badged a6 [flame suit on!]).

Get the a6 4.2 if you have extra money (since they're quite a bit more than
the "lesser" 2.7tt's) and can't live w/o the torquey-ness a v8 delivers.
(plus I like the looks of them better w/the flares, longer hood, etc.)

Get the a6 2.7tt if you want to save a li'l dough over the 2 above, and want
to go faster 0-60 than the 4.2 v8 (that's right--it's faster in
acceleration--why does Audi do this??)

Get the s4 (same eng. as above) if you want a smaller car/don't need a lot
of room (you'll notice the big diff once you sit & compare a6 to a4) and
again, want to go a li'l cheaper (and faster) than the above models.
Although depending on your option list, the a6 2.7tt may even come out to
around the same price as a loaded s4. You prolly already know, but the "s"
cars are the sport versions, and the ride might be too harsh for some.

My personal choice would be the a6 2.7tt--sort of the grandchild of my car,
an '87 5kcstq.

Have fun test driving!!
