V6 2.8, good engine?

my grandma's '96 a4 fwd has that eng., and it's quite good. Not as smooth as
a bimmer i-6, but torquey and quick to respond. She has an autobox (non-tip)
which prolly steals some of the performance away. She now has around 65k on
the car, and has no problems whatsoever, engine or otherwise.
My buddy's '98 a4 1.8t quattro isn't quite as zippy off the line, prolly due
to it being tip, quat & smaller eng. He did have an aftermarket chip in it
for a while (Garrett?) which made it very fast. But he had so many problems
w/it that he ditched it in favor of the oem, so now it's back to norm.
Still a fun car.
Are you searching for an audi w/this engine? or for a transplant project?
In the bigger cars (a6/100's etc.) the 2.8 is sluggish, perhaps due those
cars higher weight. But granny's car is fun, fun, fun!
