I'm sure someone actually KNOWS the answer, but I'll take a stab.
I reckon that it's a control issue & optimization: w/the setup as is, each
injector can be controlled individually, thereby giving the perfect amount
of fuel for each cylinder for each stroke.
Or not.
Now y'all, don't start confusing my with your "science"! *yanks up overalls*
