A4 stereo

If you are talking about a sedan (don't know about the Avant), there is
no speaker under the trunk mat even on Bose equipped A4s.  A4 sedans with
Bose have a speaker each on the front doors plus the tweeters, a speaker
each on the rear doors, and two woofers on the rear shelf.

That cover you speak of is probably an access to components below the
trunk floor.
