Pounding the Starter

Pounding the starter is not always a good tactic. The newer ceramic (smaller
diameter) starters found in Audis, specifically warn against this practice.
The boxes that contain rebuilt Bosch starters have "Warning stickers" re:
striking. YMMV.

The ceramic part is probably prone to damage from whacking on it. If it
is sticking, take it out and see why. If you are stuck somewhere, I guess
you can try hitting the starter motor. If it doesn't work....nothing lost,
your not going anywhere anyway.
