When I did the front ones on my '86 4kq I picked up
Beck Arnley boot kits from local euro repair shop for
$20 per kit, and that included new axle nut, c-clip,
grease and boot clamps.
IME it's very unlikely the whole CV should be
replaced if you're hearing no noises. Even w/lite
clicking you can often repack 'em and run 'em forever.
Standard disclaimers, YMMV.
I'd try to find a smaller honest shop that'll repack
it w/the understanding that it may not last forever.
Some shops simply insist upon new parts regardless
because they don't want the car coming back to them a
second time w/an unhappy customer. A reasonable
approach, but you've got little to lose by trying to
salvage the current joint, esp given the absence of
any noise. I'm sure there are those w/horror stories
of being stranded due to a seized joint, sometimes
trying to save a few bucks isn't worth it and
ultimately the decision is, of course, yours.
BTW, ever consider the repair yourself?? $20 for a
kit certainly beats your best quotes so far :-)
