IF the rest of the electrical indicators are all normal (lights etc.)  
The wire on the starter, it's the usually uninsulated wire that is
exposed to the elements may be the culprit, BTDT.  The wire will just rot
away until it stops making contact.  Should a visual inspection reveal
this to be the cause of the problem, a piece of wire with two gator clips
as a bridge will get you going until you can fix it.
