Thanks for the clues all! I have a question about the "rain guard" at the 
base of the winshield.  Mine has the part number: 443 819 40 M and it needs 
to be replaced.  There is much debris and signs of water in the area where 
the AC components live.  The drains are certainly clogged.  I called two 
dealers and they want to sell me the same part number, but with a "D" rather 
than an "M" and list three additional covers and parts that are recommended. 
  The total comes to about $200.  My car only seems to have the one large 
piece.  Am I missing parts, or might there be some kind of upgrade that 
happened in the area?  The car is a June 1986 5000cstq.
Any help from those who may know their way around this neighborhood would be 
appreciated.
