In the interest of continued marital bliss, I have to answer this one very
carefully.

In my case, it was the lack of loud sirens and flashing lights that kept my
wife from pulling off the highway immediately and shutting the engine down.
A small electronic simulation of a volcano in the instrument cluster just
didn't convey the appropriate amount of urgency.

Seriously.

Two weeks later, after the head was put back on and the radiator replaced,
among other things (but not the damn fuse), *I* was driving the car and it
started to overheat. I lost coolant out of the overflow tank and saw steam
coming out from under the wheelwell before *I* noticed the coolant signal.

Audi could be a bit more insistent with this particular warning indicator.
