All marketing hype and bullshit, which the entire gullible world fell
for.

Here in the UK we had the same crap, recognisable as such from the
start:

   "Only 160,000 PS2s for the UK before Christmas."

   "Deposit required six weeks in advance."

   "One only per household."

   "No more until Easter."

And then late on Christmas Eve in Sheffield one of the stores had three
in the window - "10% off for Christmas".

Same thing happened with the Audi TT.  It's still supposed to have
rarity value, even though Audi has already built 20 times as many TTs
as it built ur-quattros in eleven years.  Some people will believe
anything.
