Just thought I'd drop a line and let all of you who are pleading with the
Audi gods to have mercy with you after the long weekend. I think it suffered
from some Y2K problems.
Keep in mind, we picked the car up the day after Christmas.
12/27 - Wife driving down freeway and truck in front of her lets lose an ice
chunk of Titanic purportions, wife drives over it and it bends heat sheild
and puts a hole through a rusty muffler. Heat shield bent around drive
shaft making horrible noise, exhaust spewing everywhere from underneath the
car. Bent back heat shield and welded patch on muffler and things are okay.
12/28 - Surprisingly, nothing happened.
12/29 - Dead battery, left radio on overnight (found out later that night
that the power and constant 12 volts were wired together so that radio could
be run with car off. Installed a switch (with a reminder light) so that
power can be cut to radio.
12/30 - Again, 24 whole hours without a glitch.
12/31 - Drove up to inlaws, got gas when we got there and realized the
driver's side turn signal had come lose and was laying somewhere on the
freeway. Then, after wrapping up the bulb and fixture and setting them
inside the new gap (where the marker was) drove to nearby outlet mall to get
long underwear. Came out to car, had a little trouble with the locks
(figured because of the cold), started the car, and made it 30 ft before the
alarm started going off and killed the car. Didn't know if there was a
reset on the alarm, so I disconnected battery and it worked. Found out
later that the driver's side door lock was broken, so the car was probably
armed when we got in. Will order a new clip today from Blau to make life
better.
1/1 - We drove it home with no problems. Handles like a dream and rides
perfect. (If I can just get Orkin to come and get rid of the bugs, we'll be
set).
