to get the scoop on these aftermarket "upgrades".

Unfortunately, on your car the only reasonable way to significantly
improve lighting is to go to euro-spec bulbs and reflectors.  The cheap
way is to swap to the old (84-85) 5K grille and bezel and use H4
units.  Not the most attractive, but works.  The "cool" and expensive
way is to go to the full H4/H3 euro lights.  Either way, upgrade the wiring
with a good relay harness.  All this has been hashed to death on this
