Octane

I've been back to the gas station.  I believe it is indeed leaded
gas,  That pump is separate from any other and has a sign on
it that says "Pre Max Premium Leaded Fuel".  And it did have
the larger pump nozzle.  Maybe it's some sort of sythetic deal.
It does contain ethanol...

Beats me.
