10.5:1 GTI pistons in I-5

What are the benefits of 10.5:1 pistons from the VW GTI in the N/A 5-cyl?
I just got my car a couple weeks ago (4KCSQ), and it wasn't running right,
as the crank pulley had slipped.  It's all fixed now and the car is running
right for the first time.   It's got these pistons in an otherwise stock
motor and I'm wondering what their effect is, horsepower wise.  Do they
make this an interferance engine?  What should my timing be set to?
