It is not a soft compound by any means (like the q or 02). They lag greatly 
behind in rubber compounding anyways (compared to everyone but the Koreans), 
that is why you always get the 01 in studded.

The ecostud from hakka is a normal carbide stud with a shorter shank and a 
smaller button than a std. US stud. Not to be confused with the crap plastic 
or aluminum studs from the PNW. It is MUCH quieter than the std. studs, but 
has *slightly* less ice traction. I've driven them side by side and would go 
with normal studs above the arctic circle and ecos everywhere else.

I was shocked to find that my ecos stay in the tread very well, even better 
than stds. with the much larger base. I guess that they don't flop in the 
hole and get dragged out.
