5kt burning oil, any ideas?

i just have recently been noticing a dramatic increase in oil consumption in 
my '86 5kT w/ 115k mi.  ive been running synthetic 20-50 w/ oil changes every 
3k mi, but recent dipstick checks have had me add a half a quart or so.   
theres no leakage, no bad lifter tap, and no great puffs of smoke out the 
exhaust either..  
any ideas?
