Family Album problem

Hi, all.   Tried to get into my Family Album on my hard drive this AM...went
to resize the screen, as I have done before, and my monitor went black and
displayed the message "OVER RANGE" in a little white box.  I have re-booted
and I get the Windows 98 logo, then the same sequence.  Can't get the
monitor to respond to any of its own controls, to change back to normal
screen size.  Switched monitors, rebooted, got the Windows 98 logo, then the
screen just went black...no message at all.  I'm sending this on my wife's
computer, which is the only one still working in the place!  Any BTDT?
What's the cure?  Thanks for any help...my wife thanks you in advance!  Tom
