yep, though the powers that be are now changing it slightly so that there are
presently 2 plate changes a year, this is to prevent everyone going out when
the plate changes (previously on Aug 1) and buying new cars, giving the motor
trade cash flow headaches the rest of the year, ahhhhhh, don't you feel bad for
them?

MOT stands for Ministry of Transport (now the Department of the Environment
Transport and the Regions and the Vehicle Inspectorate) which doesn't exist
anymore but which still refers to our test of vehicle roadworthiness all cars
over 3 years of age must undergo every year,
