2 wd automaticsS trans aren't the best. I've heard from several sources that they have the identical internals as Jettas and Golfs, pulling an obviously much heavier car. Not too good.
Turbo FWD trans's are heavier duty, and _may_ last longer in an S application...this is what I'm running now. I say _may_ because if the failure is seals, then they are all the same.
One typical failure mode is the seal between the diff and the trans...the trans fluid level will drop, contaminating the diff. Boom.
It looks like Audrey might have to have her trans resealed again, she lost a little trans fluid over the weekend drive. I'll be watching it for a while first, though, as fluid levels in these things are terribly temp sensitive. Manual says to "Check while warm", whatever the hell that means.
She was a little past "warm" when I got home. 1968.6 km indicated on 65 series tires, 226.6 litres used.
21.1 MPusG
25.4 MPimpG after 3.269% distance correction.
Good insurance would be to run the best fluids you can find. I'm using Amsoil ATF and gear fluids, no affiliations, just happy...they're a lot cheaper that a trans swap.
Have a chance to buy a 5k non turbo, non quattro wagon with an automatic. I've heard all the buzz about Audi automatics--pertaining to quattros--what sort of luck are people having without the stress of 4wd ?
