Well, you'd think so, but I prefer the (relatively) clear space of the local grocery store parking lot.
This is my first winter with my "new" (to me, that is) Quattro - stock setup with 205/60/15 Bridgestone WS-15 Blizzaks. The first real snow we had here in Hamilton (remember when they closed all roads in Buffalo?) I told the wife that I was "Going to the 24 hr grocery to get mumblemumble....." and tore out of the driveway. They had about 6-8 inches of the heavy stuff in the parking lot and there I was - in heaven. [NAC: I learned to drive with my parents stable of Honkas ("we build it skimpy") - one had the "real time" 4wd and let me tell you, it took us to lots of bush parties that my parents didn't hear about. That car was fun doing donuts in the snow.] The Quattro is a blast. I spent some time that night playing with the locks - seeing how the car would handle. A few things were learned, not the least of which were:
1. The combination of a decent snow tire and all differentials locked = car on rails. But with the pedal down and wheels turned, it's easy to jump the tracks.
2. Rural obstacles: rocks/tree stumps, Urban obstacles: Shopping carts/parking curbs/light standards/people actually doing shopping at 2:30 am in the middle of a blizzard...
3. Gotta fix that ABS...
BTW, F.deKat of Dundas: we'll have to get together some time so you can teach me some real rallying technique other than what I learned on Lake Scugog with the Honka with a carload of my friends - say Sobey's parking lot at 2:30 am during the next big snowstorm?
Cheers!
