Could I kill my steering rack?

as was said earlier, running with no fluid won't hurt the rack. but
spinning the pump with no fluid will trash it. So if disabling PS is
being done as an "option," the PS belt should be removed - and maybe the
pump should be as well, and stored carefully so it doesn't rust (or
whatever).
ignore this for type 44's (and UrQ's), cause you'll be throwing away
your brake assist too, right?
