Jim,
I don't want to get into a religious debate, but
I disagree with this point below. Steel wheels are
generally heavier than alloys of the same size
and offset, although you can surely find some very
heavy alloy wheels (like nearly all of the Momos).

As for durability, that is not a given either. VW
steel wheels on a lot of the '80s and early '90s
cars were not very good. It all depends on the construction.

However, steel wheels are cheap.

cheaper.  They are certainly more durable, but I don't
know why that would be a concern.(the potholes and
curbs were left on the street, right?)
